Keep the conversation next to the record

You don't have to leave the screen you're working on to talk about an order. On a desktop, channels and direct messages open at the bottom right, and a linked order or quote shows as a record card.

Runs in your browser. In the cloud or on your own server, it's the same IWB.

01

Don't lose what was said about an order

Find the message about an order on the order itself. When you link an order to a message, that message also shows on the order's timeline. A channel member who opens the order later reads it in the same feed as notes, emails, and status changes. Someone who can't see the record gets "Record you can't access" on the card instead of its code and name.

  • Link records such as contacts, quotes, orders, and service orders
  • Click the card to open the record, and on a desktop the window stays open
  • Use the Messages chip on the timeline to see only linked messages

02

Turn a chat request into a task

You don't need to write down a request made in chat: hover over the message and "Create task" opens the task form. The title comes from the message's first line and the description from its text. If the message is linked to an order, the task is linked to that order too and shows among its tasks.

  • The list and owner come filled in by default, and you pick the due date
  • The linked record stays locked on the form
  • The description ends with an "Open chat" line that holds the conversation's address

03

Don't miss what's addressed to you

A conversation that mentions you doesn't get buried: until you read it, it shows a red @ badge in your list. The Mentions chip brings together every conversation with an unread mention. Your unread count also appears on the top bar icon, on the home screen tile, and in the browser tab title.

  • Narrow the list with the Unread or Mentions chip, and go back with All
  • If a conversation isn't there, use "Search people" to start a conversation
  • "Mark all as read" marks every conversation as read

Tidy conversations, drafts kept safe

  • Channels and direct messages

Open a channel for a team or a topic and add members later. To message a coworker directly, pick their name.

  • Stays open as you move around

On a desktop, the window stays open while you switch pages. Enlarge it, minimize it to a small tab at the bottom edge, and reopen it where you left off.

  • Replies and reactions

Quote a message in your reply, or react with any of 8 emoji. Click the same emoji again to take your reaction back.

  • Pinned messages

Pin an important message. The pin in the conversation header lists pinned messages with their author and date.

  • Search a conversation

Type at least 2 characters to see the 50 most recent matches in that conversation, with author and date.

  • Files and images

Share images, PDFs, Excel files, and Word files. Images preview right in the chat, and you can link a document from Files as a card.

  • Status and typing

Set your status to Online, Busy, Away, or Invisible. See when someone is typing and, in direct messages, when your message was seen.

  • Drafts wait for you

Switch to another conversation and your half-written message waits where you left it. Come back in the same browser and pick up from there.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know a new message has arrived?

The Messages icon on the top bar, the Messages tile on the home screen, and the browser tab title show your unread count. An open conversation refreshes every few seconds. The window doesn't pop open for new messages, and no phone or desktop notifications are sent, so nothing interrupts the screen you're working on.

Can everyone see a record I link to a message?

No. People who can see the record get its code and name on the card, and clicking it opens the record. Anyone without access sees "Record you can't access" on the card and can't click it. On the record's timeline, the message shows only to members of that channel.

Which files can I share in a conversation?

You can share images, PDFs, Excel files, and Word files. Text, CSV, and ZIP files work too. The default limit is 10 MB; your administrator can set it between 1 and 100 MB and narrow the allowed types. For a larger file, upload it to Files and link it to the message as a card.

Do mentions in messages show up in My work?

Mentions in messages collect in Messages: the conversation shows a red @ badge, and the Mentions chip lists conversations with unread mentions. The Mentioned tab in My work lists unread mentions in task descriptions and comments.

Can I edit or delete a message I sent?

Yes, you can edit or delete your own messages. An edited message shows "edited," and a deleted message is replaced with "This message was deleted." You can't edit the text of a message that has a file attached.
