Search and ⌘K

Find contacts, documents, and pages from one box

You don't have to open a module to find a record in it. ⌘K opens the command palette on any screen, and what you type is searched across 20 record groups.

Runs in your browser. In the cloud or on your own server, it's the same IWB.

01

Type the page name, skip the menus

You don't have to remember where a page sits in the menu. Besides records, the palette finds pages, reports, and settings. Every subpage shows its module on the right, so Invoices in Sales and Invoices in Purchasing don't get mixed up.

  • Sections inside settings pages are searchable too, such as fault codes
  • Start actions like "Create quote" from here
  • Switch to light, dark, or system theme from here

02

Keep restricted records out of search too

Set who sees what once, and search follows it: each user only finds records they have permission to see. If a field is hidden or masked for someone, searching by that field finds nothing. The chip for a record group you can't read doesn't appear in the palette at all.

  • Sales reps find their own quotes and opportunities, and branches find their own records
  • A masked tax ID doesn't match any contact
  • Result counts only include records you can see

03

Ask IWB AI when you don't know the record's name

Even if you don't know a record's name, you ask from the same place. The palette's first row asks IWB AI about what you typed, and pressing Enter opens your question in the full-page chat. The answer to something like "orders past their promise date this month" comes only from records you can see.

  • ⌘J opens the AI chat side panel on any screen
  • In the full-page chat, click a contact, document, or task in the answer to open it in a preview
  • Before IWB AI creates or changes a record, it shows what it will do on an approval card

Shortcuts that open from one box

  • ⌘K or Ctrl+K

⌘K on a Mac and Ctrl+K on Windows open the palette on any screen. Move with the arrow keys and press Enter to open.

  • Ask AI

The first row of the palette asks IWB AI about what you typed. From an empty palette, start with "Open AI chat".

  • Recently used

With an empty palette, the apps you opened last in this browser sit right below the AI row.

  • App grid

See every app as a grid or a list, and narrow it down with category chips.

  • Scope chips

Chips like Contacts, Documents, and Opportunities narrow results to one record group. While you search, each chip shows how many results you can see.

  • Settings sections

Find a section inside a settings page as well as the page, and the palette takes you straight to it.

  • Report a bug

In the cloud, type "bug" or "support" to find "Report a bug". ⇧⌘1 (Ctrl+Shift+1 on Windows) opens the form with a screenshot.

  • Theme

Switch to light, dark, or system theme from the palette.

Frequently asked questions

Which records does ⌘K search?

It searches 20 record groups. In sales and CRM, it finds contacts, products, documents (quotes, orders, invoices, and more), opportunities, and leads. In service, it searches service orders, equipment, RMAs, maintenance plans, warranty claims, service progress billings, and recall campaigns. It also searches projects, tenders, support tickets, lab records, fixed assets, cash and bank accounts, employees, and tasks, plus pages, reports, and settings.

Does it work on a Windows computer?

Yes. Ctrl+K opens the palette on Windows, and ⌘K on a Mac. You can also click the search field in the top bar.

Do search results depend on my permissions?

Yes. The palette only shows records you have permission to see, and the chip for a record group you can't read doesn't appear. Searching by a field that is hidden or masked for you, such as a masked tax ID, finds nothing.

Can I find screens by their IWB Classic names?

In Laboratory Management, yes: the palette recognizes screen names from IWB Classic and takes you to their counterparts in the new IWB. In other modules, search for the page by its new name.
